NDU is the Bayelsa State-owned university in Wilberforce Island, Amasoma, Southern Ijaw Local Government Area of the state.
The lecturers stated they were not rattled by Minister's ultimatum that directed them to resume academic activities or be sacked.
Over the weekend, the NDU had gone to radio stations to announce the
resumption of academic activities. A copy of the announcement signed by
the Registrar of the university, Tonbra Morris-Odubo, claimed that the
institution had opened for academic activities since October 14.
However, the Nation reports, there was nothing on ground to show that lecturers had agreed to return to classrooms.
Perhaps based on non-availability of lecturers, students were nowhere
around the campus. Most departments and faculties were shut.
ASUU has embarked upon an indefinite strike July 1, 2013, protesting
against an alleged FG's failure to honor an agreement signed between the
FG and ASUU in 2009. On November 28 the FG gave ASUU a one-week
ultimatum and promised it would sacked the lecturers should they fail to
resume. The Union officials, however, dared the FG.
